The inevitable has finally happened. Many people thought this day would never come, but it finally has reached our little county. As of Friday, 10 April 2020 Monroe County had its first case of COVID-19 and as of this publication we are up to five cases. The Union health department has confirmed these cases. Though this may come as a surprise this has reached our county it was sooner or later bound to happen.
We dont know yet who got the first case, and we probably won’t know due to privacy concerns. We do know, though, the health department is taking serious precautions due to this matter. They are monitoring all of the person’s close contacts and strictly quarantining the person. Hopefully these are the only cases Monroe County will see, but knowing the infection rate of this disease, the odds aren’t in our favor.
Its is so hard to believe a disease all the way from Wuhan, China has made its way to Monroe County, WV. This disease could be fatal to many people in this county given the fact of many seniors and people with respiratory problems. Luckily, our health officials are doing a great job at keeping this disease under control. As long as we take precautions and obey all government guidelines we should all be fine.
