JROTC Events This Week

I interviewed Ayla Cameron,  JROTC member and future National Guard recruit, about events happening later this week for JROTC students at James Monroe High School

On Thursday, April 28th, James Monroe will host Maverick Madness for JROTC students from James Monroe, Pipeview, Greenbrier West, and Greenbrier East. Maverick Madness is a fitness competition between these schools, and will feature five events. There is a tire flip and drag, a litter carry (four people carrying a 180lb dummy through a course), a tire stack challenge, a mystery event, and a 50lb 400 meter relay race.

Friday, April 29th, is military signing day for students at James Monroe High School. Multiple students will be doing a signing ceremony with their respective branches. Governor Jim Justice will be attending, along with news crews. For Army National Guard, Ayla Cameron, Jacob Craft, Evan Gooch, Deven McLean James Sneddon, and Willion Sneddon will be signing. For the US Marine Corp, Ashton Douglass, Chad Sizemore, and Adam Stapler will be signing.

Finally, on Saturday April 30th from 6-10PM, the JROTC will be hosting a military ball for JROTC members and their families. This will be James Monroe’s First Military Ball since 2018! The ball will have an award ceremony, a POW ceremony, and a dance. Kent Leonhardt, commissioner of the WV Department of Agriculture and retired Lieutenant Colonel will be a guest speaker.

As you can see, this is a fun and exciting week for James Monroe’s JROTC members. Ayla Cameron says: “I encourage all students that are interested to join JROTC.”
